Spanish essentials flashcards for iPhone
Sixty of the highest-frequency Spanish words and phrases: greetings, question words, core verbs, and the everyday nouns a beginner reaches for first.
What’s inside
The deck starts with greetings and courtesies (hola, gracias, lo siento) and the eight question words, then moves through twenty core verbs in the infinitive (ser, estar, tener, querer, poder) into everyday nouns and adjectives: house, water, work, money, big, small, new, old. Spanish is on the front and English on the back. Nouns carry their article, so you absorb gender as you go: la ciudad, el agua, la semana.
Text-to-speech is switched on for the deck, and each side speaks its own language. Tap the speaker on the front and you hear the Spanish; flip the card and the English side reads in English. On a couch review you can let the card pronounce the word you just fumbled.

Who it’s for
Absolute beginners, and travelers with a trip on the calendar. If you already read Spanish comfortably this deck will be too easy; build your own from a vocabulary list instead.
Getting it onto your iPhone
Tap the download button on this page in Safari, open the download (the ↓ button by the address bar), and tap the file; it imports into Flickdeck as a new deck with every card unstudied. From a Mac or PC, download it and AirDrop it to your iPhone. The deck library page has the full walkthrough, and the app itself is coming to the App Store.
Source and accuracy
The word list was curated by hand for this library from standard Spanish frequency lists, and it favors words a visitor actually says over words that merely rank high in print. Translations are deliberately simple one-word glosses. Where a Spanish word has two common senses, the card carries the beginner's one.
